Students from India

Not only is the Harrisburg region home to one of the six fastest growing Indian populations in the U.S., but it also boasts five vibrant Indians associations.  These include Gujarati Samaj of Central Pennsylvania, Harrisburg Area Tamil Sangam (HATS), Harrisburg Teluga Association, Asian Indian Americans of Central Pennsylvania (AIACPA), Susquehanna Malayalee Association (SMA), Maharashtra Mandal Central PA and Eastern PA Punjabi Association. These organizations each year host activities that celebrate the Indian culture, hold regular meetings, and take part in Harrisburg’s annual India Day that celebrates our region’s cultural diversity. There are also several restaurants that offer delectable Indian cuisine including Passage to India, Aangan Express, Taj Palace Indian Cuisine, Aangan, Delhi Kabab House, Lahori Kabab and Bollywood Bar and Grille. You’ll feel right at home from the moment you arrive at the university.

Students from United Arab Emirates

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and the Central Pennsylvania region boast an eclectic population with many Muslim organizations, mosques, and Middle Eastern restaurants that you will want to visit. There are 20 mosques in Central Pennsylvania alone and three in Harrisburg itself. These include Harrisburg Masjid (Sunni), Cham Muslims Association of Pennsylvania (nondenominational), and Masjidul Muwahhideen (Sunni).  Restaurants include Zahra Restaurant in nearby Mechanicsburg that serves Halal cuisine, and in Harrisburg there’s Lahori Kabab Grill that serves Pakistani entrés, 2nd Street Shawarma that serves Middle Eastern, Lebanese, and Mediterranean dishes.

Local Muslim groups include Muhammad’s Study Group of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg (ISGH), Muslims of Central Pennsylvania and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Convention that annually holds its gathering in Harrisburg.

Services for International Students

It’s not easy for any student to adjust to college life. But if you’re new to this country as well, Harrisburg University faculty and staff can help make your transition smoother. Our Admissions and Student Services team serves HU’s community of international students, assisting with the immigration processes from the time students to attending HU, through their enrollment at the university through their degree completion.

“Harrisburg University of Science and Technology was one of the best experiences I have ever had. A beautiful campus setting, classmates from many different cultures and backgrounds, lecturers with interesting insights into current best industry practice and academic thinking, an intimate class-tutor environment, a focus on individual personal development, a team-based approach to assignments so essential in a research company today, junior and senior projects offering the immediate opportunity
to apply academic learning; all of these made my Education a truly stimulating experience.”

– Udesh Kumbhani I Class of 2014
